Jackpot
Title Design
Short film Jackpot, by Director Adam Lawson, is a film about the devastation of gambling addiction. Set in an old classic casino, the visual style stayed true to this, and the title design is also a nod to this.
Jackpot is a short film by Toronto based filmmaker, Adam Lawson. It's a project he's had in mind for many years, and it's been a wonderful experience to work alongside him as he brought this film to life.
A film about gambling and addiction, it is set in a very classic casino in North America. This was our first signal to look into a particular era of design and typography to find some inspiration for our direction. Seeing the visual language of old casinos, and the same era of Hollywood really led us down a path of creating a bespoke typographic piece for this title.
We started with some letterforms that existed in part, and then began to craft new forms using elements we were finding in the old visuals. This formed this classic look, brought together with the borders and icons – something of a nod to the old Hollywood title frames from mid last century.
